ABS diagnosis requires OEM-level scan tools — generic code readers cannot access the full functionality of heavy-duty ABS systems. CTR uses Bendix ACom, Meritor WABCO Toolbox, and Haldex diagnostic platforms for complete fault code retrieval, live data monitoring, and component testing.
Wheel speed sensors are the most common ABS failure, but the root cause could be the sensor, tone ring, wiring, connector, or air gap. Accurate diagnosis identifies the actual failure — not just the symptom code.

ABS ECU has detected a fault. Regular brakes work but no anti-lock protection. DOT violation.
Failed sensor, tone ring damage, or modulator malfunction causing inappropriate activation.
ABS not functioning — wheels lock on slippery surfaces. Loss of control risk.
ESC system fault — roll stability and yaw control compromised.
Failed modulator valve leaking air. Affects brake pressure and ABS function.
Trailer ABS fault — check 7-pin connector, sensors, and trailer ECU.

ABS prevents wheel lockup during hard braking by rapidly cycling brake pressure at individual wheels. Without functioning ABS, locked wheels cause loss of steering control and increased stopping distance on slippery surfaces.
Mounted at each wheel, sensors read a toothed tone ring to detect rotational speed. The ECU compares all wheel speeds — when one decelerates faster than the vehicle, ABS intervenes.
Solenoid-operated pneumatic valves that rapidly reduce, hold, and reapply brake pressure at individual wheels. This cycle repeats multiple times per second during an ABS event.
The brain of the system. Monitors all sensor signals, detects impending lockup, commands modulator valves, stores fault codes, and controls the ABS warning lamp.
Builds on ABS with lateral accelerometers, yaw rate sensors, and steering angle sensors. Detects impending rollover and jackknife situations, automatically intervening.
CTR's facility on Armentrout Drive has the OEM diagnostic platforms, ABS testing equipment, and bay space for complete ABS system diagnosis and repair on any truck or trailer.
ABS malfunctions generate CSA points during roadside inspections. Keep your fleet compliant with proper ABS maintenance and prompt repair of warning lamp issues.
