Your NC inspection certificate is valid for one year from the date of issue. The expiration month is printed on your windshield sticker. You can renew your inspection up to 90 days before expiration without losing time on your next cycle.
Driving with an expired inspection sticker is a violation that can result in a citation. If you've recently moved to North Carolina or purchased a vehicle from out of state, you must obtain a NC inspection before registering the vehicle with the DMV.
