Why CTR

Why Charlotte Fleets Choose CTR Mobile Service

When your truck is down on the side of the road, you need a mobile service that arrives fast, diagnoses accurately, and repairs efficiently. CTR combines strategic I-85 corridor positioning with fully equipped service trucks and ASE-certified technicians who carry the same OEM diagnostic tools used in our shop.

CTR Heavy Duty mobile service dispatch facility

Fast Dispatch from Concord

CTR dispatches fully equipped mobile service trucks from our Concord facility at 2931 Armentrout Drive — centrally located on the I-85 corridor. Our strategic position means we can reach most Charlotte-area breakdown sites within 45-60 minutes during business hours. For I-85 corridor breakdowns between Salisbury and Charlotte, response times are often under 30 minutes.

Fully Equipped Service Trucks

Our mobile service trucks carry diagnostic laptops with OEM software (ServiceLink, Cummins Insite, PACCAR ESA), a comprehensive inventory of common parts (filters, belts, hoses, batteries, starters, alternators, brake components), pneumatic tools, welding equipment, and hydraulic jacks rated for Class 8 trucks. We come prepared to diagnose and repair — not just assess and tow.

ASE-Certified Mobile Technicians

Our mobile technicians hold the same ASE certifications and OEM training as our in-shop team. They have extensive experience diagnosing and repairing trucks in the field — where conditions are less controlled and efficiency matters even more. Every mobile technician carries 10+ years of heavy-duty diesel experience.

I-85 & I-77 Corridor Coverage

CTR's mobile service covers the entire Charlotte metropolitan area and the major interstate corridors that connect it. Whether your truck breaks down on I-85 between Salisbury and Gastonia, on I-77 between Statesville and Rock Hill, or on I-485 circling Charlotte, our mobile team can reach you. We also cover US-29, US-74, and NC-49 corridors.

Emergency & Scheduled Service

We offer both emergency breakdown response and scheduled on-site maintenance. Emergency calls are dispatched immediately during business hours (Mon-Fri 7am-5pm). For fleet customers, we provide scheduled on-site PM services at your yard — eliminating the need to drive trucks to our shop for routine maintenance.

Fleet Priority Dispatch

Fleet account customers receive priority dispatch for mobile service calls. When your truck is down and revenue is at stake, fleet customers move to the front of the queue. We also provide dedicated fleet scheduling for recurring on-site maintenance — same technician, same day each week or month, consistent service quality.

Services

Mobile Repair Services

CTR's mobile service trucks are equipped to handle a wide range of heavy-duty truck repairs on-site. From emergency roadside breakdowns to scheduled fleet maintenance at your yard — our ASE-certified technicians bring the shop to your location.

Roadside Breakdown Repair

When your truck breaks down on the side of the road, every minute counts. CTR's mobile breakdown service gets a fully equipped service truck to your location as quickly as possible. Our technicians diagnose the problem on-site and make the repair if possible — or arrange a tow to our Concord facility if the repair requires shop equipment. We handle breakdowns on I-85, I-77, I-485, and all major routes in the Charlotte metro area.

Emergency dispatch during business hours (Mon-Fri 7am-5pm) — call (704) 786-0132 for immediate response

On-site diagnosis using OEM diagnostic laptops — ServiceLink, Cummins Insite, PACCAR ESA, Volvo VOCOM

Common roadside repairs completed on-site — air leaks, belt failures, coolant hoses, electrical faults, fuel system issues

Tow coordination when shop repair is required — we arrange flatbed or wrecker service to our Concord facility

Driver assistance — we help coordinate load transfer, rental trucks, or hotel accommodations when needed

Detailed documentation for fleet managers — photos, diagnosis, repair description, and parts used

Diesel Engine Diagnostics

Our mobile service trucks carry full OEM diagnostic capability for all major diesel engine brands. We can read and clear fault codes, perform forced regenerations, check sensor readings, and diagnose drivability complaints — all at your location. For engines that won't start or won't run properly, on-site diagnostics often identify the problem without the expense and delay of towing to a shop.

OEM-level fault code reading and analysis — not just generic code readers, but factory diagnostic software

Live data monitoring — boost pressure, exhaust temperatures, fuel pressure, injection timing, and sensor readings

Forced DPF regeneration — when your truck is in derate mode and needs immediate regeneration to continue operating

ECM parameter verification — checking for incorrect programming that may cause performance issues

Compression testing and cylinder contribution analysis — identifying internal engine problems in the field

Turbocharger inspection — visual inspection, boost leak testing, and actuator function verification

Air Brake Repair & Adjustment

Brake problems are one of the most common reasons for roadside breakdowns and DOT violations. CTR's mobile technicians carry a full inventory of brake components and can perform most brake repairs on-site — from simple slack adjuster replacement to complete brake reline jobs. We also perform DOT-compliant brake inspections and adjustments at your yard for fleet customers.

Brake adjustment and inspection — pushrod stroke measurement, automatic slack adjuster function check

Brake chamber replacement — service chambers, spring brakes, and long-stroke chambers

Brake shoe and drum inspection — lining measurement, drum condition assessment, and hardware inspection

ABS sensor and wiring repair — wheel speed sensor replacement and harness repair

Electrical Troubleshooting

Electrical problems can strand a truck just as effectively as a mechanical failure. Our mobile technicians carry multimeters, circuit testers, wiring diagrams, and OEM diagnostic software to trace electrical faults in the field. From no-start conditions caused by starter or wiring failures to intermittent lighting problems that cause DOT violations, we diagnose and repair electrical issues on-site.

No-start diagnosis — starter circuit testing, battery load testing, ignition switch and relay verification

Sensor and wiring harness repair — chafed wires, corroded connectors, and failed sensors

Fuse and relay diagnosis — identifying parasitic draws and intermittent electrical faults

Dead batteries and failed starters are among the most common reasons for emergency mobile service calls. CTR's mobile trucks carry load testers, jump packs, replacement batteries, and starter motors for common truck applications. We can test your batteries and charging system on-site, replace failed batteries, and install new starters — getting you back on the road without a tow.

Battery load testing — individual cell testing to identify weak batteries before they fail completely

Battery replacement — Group 31 and Group 4D batteries for all Class 6-8 truck applications

Jump start service — professional jump starting with proper voltage and polarity protection

Starter motor replacement — gear reduction and direct drive starters for all major engine brands

Cable and terminal service — cleaning, tightening, and replacing corroded battery cables and terminals

Charging system verification — ensuring the alternator is properly charging after battery replacement

Overheating is a serious emergency that can cause catastrophic engine damage if not addressed immediately. CTR's mobile technicians can diagnose and repair many cooling system failures on-site — from burst hoses and failed thermostats to water pump leaks and fan clutch problems. We carry coolant, hoses, clamps, thermostats, and other common cooling system components on our service trucks.

Coolant hose replacement — upper and lower radiator hoses, heater hoses, and bypass hoses

Water pump inspection — checking for bearing play, seal leaks, and impeller erosion

Coolant top-off and system bleeding — proper ELC coolant service per manufacturer specifications

A broken serpentine belt or burst coolant hose can disable a truck instantly. These are among the most common and most preventable roadside failures. CTR's mobile service trucks carry a wide selection of belts and hoses for common truck applications. We can replace failed belts and hoses on-site in most cases — and we always inspect the remaining belts and hoses while we're there to prevent future failures.

Serpentine belt replacement — including automatic tensioner inspection and replacement when needed

V-belt replacement — for trucks with traditional V-belt drive systems

Coolant hose replacement — molded and universal hoses with proper clamps and fittings

Charge air cooler (CAC) boot replacement — common failure point that causes boost leaks and low power

Belt and hose inspection — identifying components that are near failure before they strand your truck

Regular filter replacement is the foundation of diesel engine maintenance. CTR's mobile service can perform complete filter service at your location — whether it's an emergency fuel filter change to get a truck running again, or a scheduled fleet-wide filter service at your yard. We carry oil filters, fuel filters, air filters, and coolant filters for all major engine brands.

Oil filter replacement — standard and bypass filters for Cummins, Detroit, PACCAR, and Volvo engines

Fuel filter replacement — primary and secondary fuel filters, water separator service

Coolant filter replacement — with proper SCA (supplemental coolant additive) treatment

DEF filter replacement — for trucks with diesel exhaust fluid filtration systems

Hydraulic filter replacement — for trucks with hydraulic systems (dump bodies, liftgates, etc.)

A flat tire or blowout on a Class 8 truck requires specialized equipment and expertise. CTR's mobile technicians can assist with tire changes on-site — removing damaged tires, mounting spares, and torquing lug nuts to proper specifications. We also inspect the remaining tires for damage, tread depth, and proper inflation. For tires that need replacement, we coordinate with tire vendors for on-site tire service.

Flat tire removal and spare tire mounting — using proper torque specifications for hub-piloted and stud-piloted wheels

Tire inspection — tread depth measurement, sidewall damage assessment, and inflation pressure check

Process

How Our Mobile Service Works

From your initial call to getting back on the road, CTR's mobile service process is designed for speed, transparency, and efficiency. Here's what to expect when you call for mobile truck repair.

1

Call for Dispatch

Call (704) 786-0132 and describe the problem and your location. Our dispatcher will identify the closest available mobile technician and provide an estimated arrival time. For fleet customers with priority dispatch, your call goes to the front of the queue.

2

Technician En Route

A fully equipped mobile service truck is dispatched to your location. The technician reviews the reported symptoms while en route and prepares the diagnostic tools and likely parts needed. You'll receive a call when the technician is 15 minutes away.

3

On-Site Diagnosis

The technician performs a thorough diagnosis using OEM diagnostic software and hands-on inspection. You'll receive a clear explanation of the problem, the recommended repair, and an estimate before any work begins. No surprises.

4

Repair or Tow Decision

If the repair can be completed on-site safely and efficiently, the technician performs the repair immediately. If the repair requires shop equipment (lifts, presses, machine work), the technician arranges a tow to our Concord facility and provides a shop repair estimate.

5

Back on the Road

After the repair is complete, the technician verifies the fix with a test run and diagnostic verification. You receive a detailed invoice documenting the diagnosis, parts used, and labor performed. Fleet customers receive copies sent directly to their fleet manager.

Mobile vs. Tow + Shop: While mobile service includes a trip charge, it eliminates the $300-$800+ cost of towing your truck to a shop. For many common repairs, mobile service is actually less expensive — and significantly faster — than the combined cost of towing plus waiting in a shop queue. The real value is in reduced downtime.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Response times depend on your location and our current dispatch schedule. For breakdowns on the I-85 corridor between Salisbury and Charlotte, typical response is 30-45 minutes. For the broader Charlotte metro area (I-77 corridor, I-485 loop, eastern and western suburbs), typical response is 45-60 minutes. Fleet customers with priority dispatch agreements receive faster response. We always provide an estimated arrival time when you call.

During peak periods, response times may be longer. If immediate response is critical, let our dispatcher know and we'll prioritize accordingly. We're transparent about wait times — if we can't reach you within a reasonable timeframe, we'll tell you upfront so you can explore other options.

Our mobile service trucks are equipped to handle a wide range of repairs on-site, including: battery and starter replacement, alternator replacement, belt and hose replacement, air brake repair and adjustment, electrical troubleshooting and wiring repair, filter replacement, coolant system repairs, forced DPF regeneration, and tire change assistance.

Repairs that typically require a shop visit include: engine overhauls and internal engine work, transmission rebuilds, DPF thermal cleaning, machine work (drum turning, head resurfacing), frame repair, and any repair requiring a vehicle lift. When a shop visit is needed, our mobile technician will arrange towing to our Concord facility and provide a repair estimate before the truck is moved.

CTR mobile service operates Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Calls received during business hours are dispatched immediately based on technician availability and location. We do not currently offer after-hours or weekend mobile service, but we are evaluating expanded hours based on customer demand.

For breakdowns that occur outside business hours, we recommend calling first thing in the morning at 7:00 AM for priority dispatch. Fleet customers with service agreements may have access to extended hours — contact us to discuss your specific needs.

Our standard mobile service coverage area extends approximately 50 miles from our Concord facility at 2931 Armentrout Drive. This covers the entire Charlotte metro area, the I-85 corridor from Salisbury to Gastonia, the I-77 corridor from Statesville to the South Carolina border, and surrounding communities.

For locations beyond our standard coverage area, we evaluate requests on a case-by-case basis. Extended-range service may be available with an additional trip charge. For fleet customers with service agreements, we can negotiate custom coverage areas based on your routes and operating patterns.

Yes, fleet accounts are one of the most popular ways to use our mobile service. Fleet customers receive priority dispatch, dedicated scheduling for recurring on-site maintenance, volume pricing on parts and labor, detailed maintenance records and reporting, and a dedicated account manager.

Fleet mobile service is particularly valuable for companies that operate from yards without their own maintenance facilities. We can schedule regular PM visits to your yard — same technician, same day each week or month — so your trucks stay maintained without leaving your facility. There's no minimum fleet size requirement. Contact us at (704) 786-0132 to set up a fleet account.

If the repair requires shop equipment or conditions that can't be replicated in the field, our mobile technician will provide a clear explanation of why the truck needs to come to our shop, a preliminary repair estimate for the shop work, and coordination of towing to our Concord facility at 2931 Armentrout Drive.

The mobile diagnostic fee is typically applied as a credit toward the shop repair, so you're not paying twice for diagnosis. Once the truck arrives at our shop, we perform a thorough inspection and provide a detailed written estimate before beginning any additional work. We keep you informed throughout the repair process with regular status updates.

Yes, our mobile service trucks maintain a comprehensive inventory of common parts for Class 6-8 trucks. Standard inventory includes: batteries (Group 31 and 4D), starters and alternators for common applications, serpentine belts and tensioners, coolant hoses and clamps, air brake components (chambers, slack adjusters, fittings), oil filters, fuel filters, and air filters for major engine brands, DEF fluid, engine oil, and coolant, electrical components (fuses, relays, connectors, wire), and various hardware and fittings.

For scheduled fleet maintenance visits, we pre-stage parts specific to your fleet's vehicles so we arrive with everything needed to complete the service. For emergency calls, we carry the parts that resolve the most common breakdown causes. If a specific part is needed that we don't carry, we can often source it from local suppliers and return the same day.

Mobile service includes a trip charge ($150-$250 depending on distance) that shop service does not. However, mobile service eliminates the cost and time of towing your truck to a shop, which typically costs $300-$800+ depending on distance. For many repairs, mobile service is actually less expensive than the combined cost of towing plus shop repair.

Mobile labor rates are slightly higher than shop rates to account for the additional time and logistics involved in field service. However, for fleet customers with service agreements, we offer competitive pricing that makes scheduled on-site maintenance cost-effective compared to driving trucks to a shop. The real savings with mobile service is in reduced downtime — your truck is back on the road faster because there's no tow time and no waiting in a shop queue.

Yes, on-site DOT pre-trip inspections are one of our most popular fleet mobile services. Our mobile technicians perform the same thorough inspection at your location that we perform in our shop — checking all safety-critical systems per FMCSA standards. We provide detailed inspection reports for your compliance records.

For annual DOT inspections that require a formal inspection station, those must be performed at our Concord facility where we have the required equipment and certification. However, our on-site pre-trip inspections help identify issues before they become DOT violations, reducing the chance of failed inspections and out-of-service orders during roadside checks.

CTR mobile service covers all Class 6-8 commercial trucks regardless of brand. We carry diagnostic software for Freightliner/Detroit (ServiceLink), Cummins (Insite), PACCAR/Kenworth/Peterbilt (ESA), Volvo/Mack (VOCOM), International/Navistar (ServiceMaxx), and Hino (DX2). Our technicians have experience with all major truck brands and engine platforms.

We service highway tractors, straight trucks, dump trucks, refuse trucks, delivery trucks, utility trucks, and other commercial vehicle configurations. If it's a Class 6-8 truck with a diesel engine, our mobile service can diagnose and repair it. For medium-duty trucks (Class 4-5), we can also provide mobile service on a case-by-case basis.
